electroCore publishes study on nerve stimulation for brain injury patients

electroCore Inc. (NASDAQ: ECOR) announced the publication of clinical findings in Frontiers in Neuroscience examining non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation in patients with mild traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The study, titled "Adjunctive non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation for chronic mild traumatic brain injury with comorbid post-traumatic stress disorder: a post-hoc analysis," analyzed 35 patients with chronic mild traumatic brain injury and PTSD. The analysis found that adjunctive non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation reduced overall symptom burden with improvements across cognitive, affective, and somatic domains.

The research was conducted by Drs. Michael Ament, Peter Staats, Norianne Theresa Ingram, and Emily Leonard. The study population included patients with high symptom burden commonly associated with persistent neurobehavioral symptoms.

"This data suggests that adjunctive vagus nerve stimulation may provide meaningful clinical benefit in this complex patient population and adds significantly to the literature on the use of vagus nerve stimulation in patients with PTSD," said Dr. Peter Staats, Chief Medical Officer of electroCore.

electroCore develops bioelectronic medicine products including gammaCore non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation for primary headache conditions and Quell Fibromyalgia for fibromyalgia symptom reduction. The company also markets Truvaga and TAC-STIM devices for general wellness applications.

The findings were based on a post-hoc analysis of existing data, according to the company's press release statement.
