BYD reports 33% drop in new energy vehicle production for March
Investing.com -- BYD Company Limited announced Wednesday that its new energy vehicle production fell 33.02% year-on-year in March 2026, producing 300,399 units compared to 395,091 units in March 2025.
Sales of new energy vehicles declined 30.01% to 300,222 units in March from 377,420 units in the same month last year.
The company's passenger vehicle segment saw production decrease 33.22% to 295,412 units, while sales dropped 30.13% to 295,693 units.
Battery electric vehicle production fell 30.42% to 148,666 units in March, with sales declining 25.46% to 147,601 units. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle production decreased 35.36% to 146,746 units, while sales dropped 33.54% to 148,092 units.
For the first three months of 2026, BYD produced 708,037 new energy vehicles, down 33.02% from 1,057,079 units in the same period of 2025. Year-to-date sales totaled 700,463 units, a decrease of 30.01% from 1,000,804 units.
Commercial vehicle production declined 19.20% to 4,987 units in March, with sales falling 22.00% to 4,529 units. Bus production and sales both increased 27.68% to 663 units.
