Home Depot names Franziska Bell as chief technology officer

Home Depot Inc. (NYSE: HD) appointed Dr. Franziska "Fran" Bell as executive vice president and chief technology officer, effective April 6, according to a company statement.

Bell will oversee technology strategy, development, product management, data and artificial intelligence initiatives for the home improvement retailer. She previously served as chief data, AI and analytics officer at Ford Motor Company and held executive positions at BP, Uber and Toyota.

"Fran is a respected leader in data science and AI, and she understands the power of technology to improve the customer experience," said Ted Decker, chair, president and CEO of Home Depot.

In her new role, Bell will focus on integrating AI and machine learning across the company's operations to enhance experiences for employees and customers. Home Depot operates 2,359 retail stores and over 1,250 SRS locations across the United States, Canada and Mexico, employing more than 470,000 associates.

The appointment comes as Home Depot continues investing in technology solutions for both do-it-yourself customers and professional contractors. Bell said she plans to develop digital tools that help homeowners with renovations and provide contractors with business growth solutions.
