IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond takes medical leave for pneumonia treatment

IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX) announced that Chief Executive Officer Richard Gelfond has taken a temporary medical leave of absence to receive treatment for pneumonia, according to a company statement.
The company said Gelfond is receiving care and progressing in his recovery. During his absence, he will not participate in any public or private company events.
IMAX's senior executive team will handle day-to-day operations in coordination with Board Chairman Darren Throop and maintain regular communication with the full Board of Directors. The executive team includes Chief Financial Officer Natasha Fernandes, who has been with IMAX for 19 years, Chief Marketing Officer Anne Globe, Chief Legal Officer Rob Lister with 27 years at the company, and President of IMAX Theatres Mark Welton, who has 28 years of service.
The entertainment technology company issued the statement to provide transparency regarding Gelfond's absence from upcoming industry conferences. IMAX said it would not provide further comment on his medical treatment but would offer updates as appropriate.
"We have a strong, deeply experienced senior executive team who are fully engaged, providing regular updates to the Board, and remain focused as always on the continued growth and success of IMAX," Throop stated.
IMAX operates 1,864 theater systems across 91 countries and territories as of December 31, 2025. The company is headquartered in New York, Toronto, and Los Angeles.
