Virtuix Inc. (NASDAQ: VTIX) announced it has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Under the agreement, Virtuix will deliver an Omni One system to the school's Modeling, Virtual Environments, and Simulation Institute.
Researchers at the Naval Postgraduate School will examine the effectiveness of omni-directional navigation technology for military training and simulation applications. The agreement represents Virtuix's first formal research partnership with the U.S. Navy.
The collaboration builds on Virtuix's existing defense market presence, which includes sales to the U.S. Army at West Point, the U.S. Air Force Academy, Yokota Air Force Base, and the U.S. Marine Corps. The company has also partnered with the University of Central Florida's robotics program to demonstrate its technology with humanoid robots.
"Following growing interest from the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Marine Corps, we are excited to see the U.S. Navy begin evaluating our Omni technology for training and simulation applications," said Jan Goetgeluk, founder and CEO of Virtuix.
The research will focus on Virtuix's Virtual Terrain Walk technology, which allows users to navigate virtual environments created from real-world locations captured with 360-degree cameras. The system uses AI-driven 3D reconstruction to create virtual training environments for military personnel.
Virtuix develops full-body virtual reality systems that enable users to walk and run in multiple directions within virtual environments. The company serves consumer, enterprise, and defense markets with its omni-directional treadmill technology.
