Workhorse Group Inc. (NASDAQ: WKHS) announced the availability of a new W56 step van model equipped with a 140 kWh battery pack, priced starting at $169,000.
The electric vehicle manufacturer said the new configuration offers an estimated 100-mile range per charge at full payload. The model is built on the same platform as the company's existing 210 kWh W56 step van and comes in two wheelbase options.
The standard 178-inch wheelbase version provides 1,000 cubic feet of cargo space with an 11,000-pound payload capacity. The extended 208-inch wheelbase model offers the same cargo volume with a 10,000-pound payload capacity.
"The new 140 kWh version of our W56 step van is a result of listening to customer feedback and purpose-building a product to meet their needs," said Scott Griffith, Workhorse CEO.
According to the company, fleet operators have reported that 100 miles of daily range exceeds their needs for many routes, and they requested a smaller battery pack at a lower price point. The pricing includes a fully-integrated composite body.
Workhorse stated the new model and pricing result from synergies realized through its December 2025 merger with Motiv Electric Trucks. The company said the combination allows for economies of scale and operational efficiencies that help reduce production costs.
The W56 is manufactured at Workhorse's Union City, Indiana facility, which has capacity to produce more than 5,000 vehicles annually on a single shift. The company distributes vehicles through a national dealer network.
Workhorse is headquartered in the Detroit area and produces electric trucks, step vans, shuttles and buses for commercial use.
