Iran warns of strikes on regional ally if "island" occupation attempted
Investing.com -- Iran's parliament speaker issued a stark warning on Wednesday, stating that intelligence reports indicate "enemies" are preparing to occupy an Iranian island with backing from an unnamed regional country.
Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said in a post on X that Iranian forces are monitoring enemy movements and threatened retaliation if any action is taken.
"Our forces are monitoring all enemy movements, and if they take any action, all of that regional state's vital infrastructure will be targeted with continuous and relentless attacks," Qalibaf wrote.
The parliament speaker did not identify which country Iran believes is providing support for the alleged occupation plan, nor did he specify which Iranian island is reportedly being targeted.
Unconfirmed reports over the past several days suggested that the Gulf country in question could be Saudi Arabia. The "island" in question is likely Kharg Island - the island containing Iran's key oilfield's. Kharg Island's military facilities had been the targets of U.S. attacks over the past several days
