Accenture Federal Services wins NOAA contract to modernize weather systems

Accenture Federal Services, a subsidiary of Accenture (NYSE: ACN), has been awarded a contract by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to modernize the National Weather Service's forecast operations system.

The contract involves replacing the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System with NWS HIVE (Hydrometeorological Interactive Virtual Environment), according to a company statement. The system supports applications, data feeds, and visualization tools used by meteorologists and hydrologists to monitor conditions and issue forecasts and warnings.

Under the agreement, Accenture Federal Services will help modernize and operate NWS HIVE, which generates and disseminates weather, water, and climate forecasts nationwide. The company will apply capabilities in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, DevSecOps, and platform engineering to the project.

"NOAA's mission is vital to the safety and resilience of communities across the country, and NWS HIVE will sit at its heart," said Ron Ash, chief executive officer of Accenture Federal Services.

The modernization aims to enhance system performance, scalability, and security while supporting future innovation capabilities. NWS HIVE represents part of NOAA's broader technology modernization initiative and the National Weather Service's transition toward more data-driven forecasting operations.

Rasha Nahas, Accenture's U.S. Department of Commerce client lead, stated that NWS HIVE will be foundational to the National Weather Service's ability to deliver forecasts and strengthen operational reliability.

The contract supports the National Weather Service's evolution toward more agile and resilient forecasting capabilities. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed in the announcement.
