Allegiant Travel Company (NASDAQ: ALGT) announced a "Travel with Confidence" policy that allows customers to change or cancel flights without penalty during the current partial government shutdown. The policy applies to new and existing bookings for flights scheduled to depart between now and the end of the government shutdown.
Under the policy, customers can modify their itineraries without change fees or cancel flights and receive refunds without penalty. Customers must contact Allegiant Customer Care directly to make changes or cancellations under this policy.
"We know travelers want to feel confident and in control when they book a trip," said Drew Wells, Allegiant's Chief Commercial Officer. "This policy gives them the flexibility to adjust plans if needed, while our network – which includes many smaller, easier-to-navigate airports – helps make the travel experience simpler from start to finish."
The airline stated that flights across its network are operating as scheduled, including at smaller markets it serves. Allegiant operates from airports that the company describes as providing a more streamlined travel experience with less crowded terminals.
The Las Vegas-based carrier encourages customers to plan ahead and allow extra time for airport security screening during the government shutdown. The airline advised passengers to check local airport websites or social media channels for TSA wait times.
Allegiant reported that it was ranked second in The Wall Street Journal's annual airline rankings earlier this year. The airline operates all-nonstop flights connecting smaller cities to vacation destinations.
