India's Eris Lifesciences launches generic semaglutide at $13.8 per month

Investing.com -- India's Eris Lifesciences launched one of the most affordable versions of generic semaglutide on Friday, with the lowest dosage starting at 1,290 rupees ($13.8) per month.

The company introduced the product under the brand name Sundae in India for diabetes treatment. The lowest dose of a Sundae vial contains 2 mg of the active ingredient.

Natco Pharma, Eris' partner for the semaglutide launch, priced its lowest 2 mg dose at 1,290 rupees per month.

Eris plans to launch a pen device version of Sundae in April, offering three dosages. The lowest 2 mg dose will cost 4,000 rupees per month, while the highest 8 mg dose will be priced at 4,500 rupees per month.

The company is among dozens of Indian drugmakers launching generic semaglutide as Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk's semaglutide patent expires on March 20. Larger competitor Dr Reddy's is expected to launch its version on Saturday.

On a monthly basis, Sundae's lowest dose is 88% cheaper than that of Novo's Wegovy and 91% cheaper than the lowest dose of U.S. drugmaker Eli Lilly's Mounjaro.
