TELUS (NYSE: TU) launched what the company describes as the world's first smart home AI assistant with Generative UI technology. The TELUS SmartHome Assistant will roll out to SmartHome+ customers over the coming weeks, according to a company statement.
The assistant processes voice, images, sensor feeds and videos in real time to create a personalized interface based on user needs. The system can unify more than 2,000 device models from various brands into a single interface, addressing what TELUS identifies as fragmented user experiences across different smart home apps and devices.
"The true test of any smart home platform is whether it actually makes life easier and your home more enjoyable," said Dwayne Benefield, Chief Product Officer at TELUS. "The TELUS SmartHome Assistant delivers that with one app, one login, and one AI assistant that can support thousands of smart devices."
The assistant can create automation interfaces visually when users request specific actions, such as disabling televisions during homework time. Users can photograph non-functioning devices to receive troubleshooting guides, or ask the system to check security cameras for specific events like dog walker arrivals.
TELUS plans to add internet management capabilities in the coming weeks, allowing users to monitor Wi-Fi performance and manage family screen time through conversational commands.
The company launched SmartHome+ in late 2024 and has since added features including Automation, Video, and SmartEnergy services. New SmartHome+ subscribers can save up to $125 on smart devices and receive 50% off professional installation with a 24-month subscription commitment.
TELUS operates in more than 45 countries and generates over $20 billion in annual revenue with more than 21 million customer connections, according to the company statement.
