Investing.com -- Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL). is said to be exploring the possibility of using Google’s Gemini model to power a revamped version of its Siri voice assistant, potentially outsourcing more of its artificial intelligence technology.
The iPhone maker has been in early discussions with Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Inc.’s Google about developing a custom AI model that could serve as the foundation for a new Siri version expected next year, according to a Bloomberg report on Friday. Google has already begun training a potential model that would run on Apple’s servers, the report added.
Apple has not yet made a final decision on whether to continue using its internal models for Siri or transition to an external partner. The company is reportedly still several weeks away from reaching this decision and has not determined which partner it might choose if it opts for external technology.
This potential shift comes after Apple experienced delays with a previously announced Siri upgrade. The update was originally scheduled for release in spring 2025 but has been postponed by a year due to engineering challenges.
