Electric vehicle giant, Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) is recalling nearly 2.2 million EVs in the U.S. due to the size of the font on the vehicle’s warning lights.
According to the NHTSA release, Tesla's chosen font size for the affected vehicles fails to meet safety standards. The impacted models include Tesla's 2012-2023 Model S, 2016-2024 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, 2019-2024 Model Y, and the recently introduced 2024 Cybertruck.
“Warning lights with a smaller font size can make critical safety information on the instrument panel difficult to read, increasing the risk of a crash,” the agency said in the notice.
In response to this issue, Tesla is offering a complimentary over-the-air (OTA) software update to address the font size concern. Owners can anticipate receiving notification letters regarding this update to be sent out on March 30, 2024.
This latest recall is at least Tesla’s fifth in less than two years.
Shares of TSLA are down 1.40% in pre-market trading Friday morning.
