Tesla (TSLA) recalls 120k EVs in U.S.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Friday that electric vehicle giant, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is recalling 120,423 vehicles in the U.S. over the risk of cabin doors being unlocked during a crash.

The NHTSA confirmed that the electric automaker has issued an over-the-air (OTA) software update aimed at resolving the problem.

The recall affects 2021-2023 Model S and Model X vehicles due to their failure to meet specific federal safety standards concerning side-impact protection.

Tesla initiated its largest-ever recall in the U.S. last week, affecting over 2 million vehicles, which essentially encompasses nearly all of its vehicles currently on American roads. The company's action was prompted by the need to implement additional safety measures within its Autopilot advanced driver-assistance system, following safety concerns raised by a federal regulator.

Shares of TSLA are up 0.36% in mid-day trading on Friday.
