Ford (F) recalls 230K Explorer SUVs for rollaway risk

Ford is recalling certain 2020-2022 Ford (NYSE: F) Explorers due to the potential risk of rolling away if the parking brake is not engaged.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 238,364 vehicles are affected by this recall. The issue stems from a "disconnected driveshaft," which could lead to unintended movement and increase the possibility of a collision.

Two complaints concerning faulty rear axle bolts have been reported to the Office of Defects Investigation, indicating a recurrence of the issue previously addressed in a prior recall.

In a separate instance earlier in July, Ford recalled over 870,000 of its full-sized F-150 trucks due to an issue with the electronic parking brake. The concern was that the parking brake could engage unexpectedly, even during operation, potentially leading to a loss of control and a subsequent collision.

Ford has stated that it will conduct the necessary repairs at no cost. The planned fixes include the replacement of the rear axle bolt and subframe bushing, along with an inspection of the rear axle cover for any potential damage.

Affected owners will receive notification letters from Ford on November 6.

Shares of F are up 1.10% in afternoon trading on Monday.
