Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has launched a recall for 1,337 2023 Model S, Model X, and Model Y vehicles due to a possible misalignment in the pitch angle of the vehicles' front-facing cameras. The specifics of this recall were outlined in a Safety Recall Report issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
According to the Safety Recall Report, the misalignment in the front-facing cameras of the impacted vehicles could unexpectedly deactivate vital safety features. This issue could result in malfunctions in crucial systems such as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warnings, and lane-keeping assist, without giving any prior alert to the driver.
The NHTSA’s Safety Recall Report describes the issue. “On certain affected vehicles, the pitch angle of the forward-facing cameras may not be aligned to specification, which may cause certain active safety features to be unavailable, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning and lane keeping assist, without alerting the driver to their unavailability.”
According to the report, there have been 83 warranty claims and two field reports related to the misaligned cameras so far. Tesla is currently not aware of any crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to the issue.
This latest recall will require customers to bring their vehicles to a service center for inspections of the forward-facing cameras’ pitch angle to address the fault. Any adjustments to align the vehicles’ cameras’ angle to specification will be carried out free of charge.
Shares of TSLA are down 0.35% in afternoon trading on Wednesday.
