In a response to an inquiry by the GeekWire magazine, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) has confirmed it's implementing a new round of layoffs, reportedly affecting customer service, support, and sales teams.
"Organizational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business. We will continue to prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners," - the company's spokesperson said in a statement.
Yesterday, GeekWire reported that "Microsoft announced a new round of job cuts internally Monday morning," and suggested the "cuts go beyond the 10,000 global layoffs announced on Jan. 18."
The magazine also cited numerous LinkedIn posts by affected employees, suggesting the layoffs primarily affected "customer support and sales jobs across teams, geographies, and roles."
In the latest update to the story, GeekWire was additionally able to access "a new filing with the Washington state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) system," which showed a total 276 job cuts: "210 at the company’s Redmond, Wash., and Bellevue, Wash. locations, and 66 remote jobs."
Shares of MSFT closed at $331.83 yesterday, down 1.6%.
