Honda (HMC) recalls 1.2M vehicles for faulty rear view camera

Honda (NYSE: HMC) is initiating a recall of approximately 1.2 million vehicles in the U.S., due to a potential issue where the rear view camera image may fail to display on the dashboard screen.

The recall covers certain Odyssey minivans made between 2018 and 2023, along with Pilot SUVs produced from 2019 to 2022 and Passport SUVs manufactured from 2019 to 2023.

According to documents released by U.S. safety regulators on Friday, Honda has stated that the issue can be attributed to a defective coaxial cable connector. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has expressed concern, noting that the absence of a rear view camera image could impair driver visibility and potentially raise the likelihood of a collision.

The company says it received nearly 274,000 warranty claims from May of 2017 through June 8. It has no reports of any injuries.

Dealers will replace a cable harness and install a straightening cover at no cost to owners, who will be notified by letter starting July 24.

Shares of HMC are down 1.58% in pre-market trading on Friday.
