Elon Musk is looking for a new CEO of Twitter, sources are said to have told CNBC reporter David Faber on Tuesday.
The news follows Twitter owner Musk's poll on Sunday asking users if he should step down as head of the social media company, which he acquired for $44 billion in October.
The Twitter and Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO has previously said his position at Twitter would be temporary, stating in court in November: "I expect to reduce my time at Twitter and find somebody else to run Twitter over time."
However, he has also said there is no successor, as the "question is not finding a CEO, the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive."
Following his poll on Sunday asking if he should step down, 57.5% said he should. Musk said before the poll closed that he would abide by the result.
On Tuesday, CNBC reported that sources told Faber that Musk's search for a new CEO is ongoing and started before the Twitter poll was created.
Tesla shares are down once again, with shareholders concerned that Musk's role at Twitter will impact the electric vehicle company. TSLA is down a further 2% on Tuesday after declining more than 60% in 2022.
