America's largest mall owner, Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG), has been exploring the possibility of turning some defunct anchor department stores, like Sears and J.C. Penney, into Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) fulfillment centers, the Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the matter.
Amazon uses these spaces to store items until delivery to local customers.
Simon's malls have 63 Penney and 11 Sears stores. It is unclear how many stores Amazon is considering and talks may not lead to a deal, the report added.
