Alphabet's (Nasdaq: GOOG)(Nasdaq: GOOGL) Android Pay should be a top tool used to conduct mobile payments, according to one research report.
Digitimes noted today that Android Pay has several advantages over Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) Apple Pay. One is that more banks and shops are expected to support Android Pay given android shipments accounted for over 75 percent of mobile device shipments in Q215 alone. Apple Pay is also limited to more advanced iPhones, while all Android phones with NFC technology will be able to update software and use the platform.
While Android Pay will use several identification technologies to protect user data, Apple Pay may be more inclined to protect user's privacy.
Notably, no specific time line was given on when Android Pay would become the mobile payment method of choice globally.
Shares of Alphabet are up over 1 percent Thursday.
