Apple (AAPL) CEO Cook Calls Television an 'Area of Intense Interest'

December 6, 2012 11:30 AM
Looks like Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) CEO Tim Cook is making the rounds lately. Along with doing a Bloomberg interview, there will be a special run with NBC anchor Brian Williams at 10pm EST on Thursday night.

But, Cook didn't stay mum about everything. According to a brief preview of the interview, Apple might be moving forward with a TV set sometime soon. He said:

"When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years...It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that."

We're not sure what was meant by that, surely Cook owns a plasma or LED HDTV by now and those were definitely not available in the early 80s. He might have been referring to the programming structure of broadcast TV, which basically amounts to commercials interspersed with actual content.

Still, analysts may have hit the nail on the head with expectations for something more than Apple's Apple TV set-top-box (STB), even though, at $99, it still one of the better deals that Apple has going.

Shares are up nearly 2 percent on the session today. For more on the interview, click here.
