Bionano OGM studies at ESHG 2026 rise 67% year over year
Bionano Genomics (Nasdaq: BNGO) said 35 studies featuring optical genome mapping (OGM) were presented at the 2026 European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG) conference, up from 21 at the 2025 event, a 67% year-over-year increase, according to a press release from the San Diego-based company.
Authors of the studies spanned 17 countries, compared with 12 countries at the prior year's conference, across five regions: Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and the Middle East. Europe contributed the most studies overall, while Brazil was the single largest national contributor.
Rare and constitutional genetic disorders represented approximately half of the studies. Other research areas included hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, hereditary cancer, reproductive health, and cardiovascular genomics. Studies featured OGM both independently and alongside chromosomal microarray, classical karyotyping, and long- and short-read sequencing.
Alka Chaubey, chief medical officer of Bionano, said in the statement: "Presentations at ESHG 2026 demonstrated the ability of OGM to resolve complex genomic rearrangements, identify cryptic structural variants, and provide insights that may not be accessible through traditional cytogenetic and sequencing approaches."
Bionano's OGM products are labeled for research use only and are not cleared for diagnostic procedures.
