June 16, 2026 1:01 PM

Hologic, Inc. (NASDAQ: HOLX) obtained a ruling from the Unified Patent Court (UPC) in Germany on June 10, 2026, finding that Siemens infringed upon a Hologic mammography technology patent.

The court determined that Siemens violated European Patent EP 2 352 431, which covers Hologic's focusing technology used in its Envision platform, in connection with Siemens' MAMMOMAT B.brilliant mammography systems.

The UPC issued an injunction prohibiting Siemens from making, offering, placing on the market, using, importing, or storing the affected systems in Germany, France, and the Netherlands. The court also ordered a mandatory recall and destruction of all affected systems in those three countries.

Hologic is entitled to retroactive and future monetary damages and costs, with amounts to be determined by the court. Siemens is additionally required to refund customers of the infringing systems for purchase prices paid and reimburse them for logistics and related costs associated with the recall.

Essex Mitchell, Chief Operating Officer at Hologic, said in a statement: "Our technologies are designed to help detect cancer earlier, improve diagnostic confidence and ultimately save lives. When other companies infringe on our patented inventions, it risks undermining the development of new and innovative products that give physicians the ability to deliver the care patients depend on."
