TRUIST appoints former Bank of America executive to its board

Truist Financial Corporation (NYSE: TFC) announced the appointment of Catherine Bessant to its board of directors, where she will serve on the board's risk committee.



Bessant most recently served as CEO of Foundation For The Carolinas. Before that, she spent four decades at Bank of America, retiring as vice chair of global strategy and a member of the company's executive management team. She previously served as chief operations and technology officer at Bank of America, overseeing business continuity and information security strategies.



Earlier in her Bank of America career, Bessant held roles including president of global corporate banking, chief marketing officer, and president of the Florida market, among others.



"I look forward to working alongside the Truist board to help advance the company's strategic direction and purpose to inspire and build better lives and communities," Bessant said.



Bessant was inducted into American Banker's "Most Powerful Women in Banking" Hall of Fame in 2020. She currently serves on the board of directors of Zurich Insurance Group and on the advisory board of the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. She is also the immediate past chair of the USA Field Hockey board of directors.



Truist, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, reported total assets of $549 billion as of March 31, 2026.
