AMD and Rackspace Technology sign deal for 30 MW AI compute deployment
AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) and Rackspace Technology (NASDAQ: RXT) have signed a definitive agreement for the phased deployment of 30 MW of AMD-based compute across Rackspace's global data centers, with deployment scheduled to begin in late 2026 through 2028.
The agreement converts a memorandum of understanding the two companies announced on May 7, 2026, into a binding commercial framework. It covers AMD Instinct GPUs, including the MI355X and MI350P models and future successors, as well as AMD EPYC CPUs, integrated within what the companies describe as an Enterprise AI Cloud architecture.
The deal targets regulated industries, with healthcare providers cited as among those expressing early interest in the compute capacity for clinical AI and inference workloads.
Under the agreement, both companies will commit sales and marketing personnel to jointly identify and pursue enterprise customers across regulated industries. The collaboration is also intended to accelerate delivery of four capabilities outlined in the original MOU: Enterprise AI Cloud, Enterprise Inference Engine, Inference as a Service, and Bare Metal AMD Instinct.
"Enterprises in regulated industries need AI infrastructure that is governed from the ground up, with one operator accountable for business outcomes, not a collection of vendors each owning a piece," said Gajen Kandiah, CEO of Rackspace Technology.
"By bringing together leadership AMD AI compute solutions and Rackspace's governed cloud operating model, we are helping regulated enterprises deploy high-performance AI infrastructure with the openness, scalability and accountability needed to run AI at enterprise scale," said Dan McNamara, senior vice president and general manager of Compute and Enterprise AI at AMD.
The companies noted in the press release that individual deployment authorizations remain subject to separate execution, and that certain commercial terms, including pricing, have not been fully finalized. Any third-party financing required for planned deployments is also subject to availability on terms acceptable to Rackspace.
