Stellantis says it will not close any plants in Italy
Investing.com -- Stellantis will not close any of its manufacturing facilities in Italy, with each plant assigned a specific function in the automaker's industrial strategy, according to Europe chief Emanuele Cappellano.
Cappellano met with union representatives in Rome on Monday to discuss details of the company's new business plan that launched last month. The meeting took place ahead of Chief Executive Antonio Filosa's scheduled appearance at the Italian parliament on Wednesday.
Italy holds a key position in Stellantis' new business plan, a company spokesman quoted Cappellano as saying. The executive reported encouraging signs in the country, including rising demand, increased market share, higher production levels, and fewer furloughs across multiple plants.
The Pomigliano facility will focus on affordable electric vehicles, while Mirafiori will concentrate on industrial innovation and small cars. The Melfi, Cassino, and Modena plants will support the production of premium and luxury vehicles. The Atessa plant remains designated as a central location for light commercial vehicles.
Cappellano described the current plans for Italy as a natural and more ambitious development of an earlier plan the automaker presented to the Italian government in late 2024, before Filosa assumed the CEO role.
The commitments outlined in Stellantis' 2024 plan for Italy have been fulfilled and often surpassed under the new business plan, Cappellano told the unions.
