Leerink highlights drug demand rebound after Memorial Day

Investing.com - Leerink reported prescription drug trends for the week ending June 5 showed a rebound following Memorial Day weekend, with the total U.S. drug market posting week-over-week growth of 10% compared to the prior week's decline of 8%.

Tirzepatide, sold as Mounjaro and Zepbound, recorded year-over-year prescription growth of 46% for the one-week period, 51% for four weeks, and 57% for 12 weeks. Semaglutide, marketed as Ozempic and Wegovy, showed year-over-year prescription growth of 22% for one week, 21% for four weeks, and 18% for 12 weeks. The total Wegovy franchise, including injectable and oral formulations, increased 10% week-over-week, while Zepbound rose 9% week-over-week.

Foundayo generated approximately 20,000 prescriptions in its ninth week of launch, up 17% week-over-week, representing less than a quarter of oral Wegovy's roughly 81,000 prescriptions in its ninth week. Oral Wegovy reached approximately 159,000 prescriptions in its 22nd week of launch, up 19% from roughly 134,000 in the 21st week. Leerink noted IQVIA oral Wegovy prescription data is understated because it does not capture certain direct-to-consumer channels.

AbbVie's (NYSE: ABBV) Skyrizi posted year-over-year growth of 26% for one week, 26% for four weeks, and 35% for 52 weeks, while Rinvoq showed 19% one-week growth, 25% four-week growth, and 29% 52-week growth. Johnson & Johnson's Tremfya recorded year-over-year growth of 68% for one week, 71% for four weeks, and 52% for 52 weeks, aided by inflammatory bowel disease launches with full subcutaneous dosing schedules.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals' acute pain drug Journavx generated approximately 22,000 prescriptions in its 67th week of launch, up 20% from the prior week's roughly 18,000. Bristol Myers Squibb's Cobenfy prescriptions increased 18% week-over-week compared to a decline of 13% in the prior week.
