Deutsche Aircraft partners with Hexcel for D328eco composite materials
Deutsche Aircraft and Hexcel Corporation (NYSE: HXL) signed a long-term partnership agreement for advanced composite solutions on the D328eco regional turboprop aircraft program. The agreement was announced at the ILA Berlin Air Show.
Under the partnership, Hexcel will provide composite materials for primary and secondary aircraft structures on the D328eco, designed to reduce weight while maintaining durability and fatigue resistance. The materials are intended to support fuel efficiency and operational reliability objectives for the aircraft.
"This partnership with Deutsche Aircraft reflects Hexcel's long-standing commitment to supporting innovative, sustainable aerospace programs in Europe," said Lilian Braylé, President Aerospace Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa & Industrial at Hexcel.
The D328eco represents an updated version of the Dornier 328 turboprop, incorporating new propulsion systems and avionics. Deutsche Aircraft plans to produce the aircraft at its facility in Leipzig/Halle, with capacity for up to 48 aircraft annually.
"Working with Hexcel allows us to combine advanced materials expertise with industrial reliability, supporting our ambition to deliver a highly efficient and sustainable aircraft for regional operators worldwide," said Patricia Ferrari, Vice President Supply Chain at Deutsche Aircraft.
The D328eco program timeline includes first flight scheduled for 2026, with entry into service planned for the fourth quarter of 2027. Deutsche Aircraft holds the type certificate for the existing Dornier 328 turboprop and jet fleet.
Hexcel Corporation manufactures advanced lightweight composites including carbon fiber, prepregs, and honeycomb materials for aerospace and industrial applications. The partnership agreement details were provided in a joint press release statement.
