AeroVironment signs MOU with Taiwan's Ubiqconn for drone controller system

June 11, 2026 9:10 AM

AeroVironment Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) signed a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan-based Ubiqconn Technology Inc. to develop a common controller system for Taiwan's indigenous unmanned aircraft systems program.

The collaboration will integrate AeroVironment's Kinesis mission management software onto Ubiqconn's rugged controller platforms. The system aims to enable operators to control multiple types of unmanned aircraft from various manufacturers through a single interface.

The partnership supports Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense requirements, including an indigenous drone program targeting procurement of tens of thousands of domestically produced drones, according to the company's press release.

Under the agreement, AeroVironment will provide integrated controller systems with Kinesis software access, along with training and technical support. Ubiqconn will supply controller hardware and conduct demonstrations for Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense and government stakeholders.

"By combining AV's battle-proven mission software with Ubiqconn's advanced rugged controller technology and Taiwan's growing industrial base, we're laying the groundwork for integrated, networked uncrewed solutions tailored to Taiwan's defense and security needs," said Wahid Nawabi, AeroVironment's chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Ubiqconn will engage domestic drone manufacturers to expand software compatibility and lead outreach efforts to shape controller requirements. The company will also provide technical input on drone platforms commonly used within Taiwan's defense community.

In September 2025, AeroVironment announced a strategic collaboration with Taiwan's National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology to strengthen Taiwan's unmanned systems capabilities.

Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Taipei, Ubiqconn develops rugged computing and connectivity solutions for defense and industrial applications.
