Trump says US military helped move 100 million oil barrels through Hormuz

Investing.com -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that more than 100 million barrels of crude oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a military operation he ordered last month.

Trump said he directed the U.S. military to carry out what he described as a secret mission to support oil tankers and other commercial vessels traveling through the waterway.

"Today, I am pleased to announce that this effort has resulted in more than 100 MILLION Barrels of Oil making its way through the Straight, and into the Open Market," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

The president said more than 200 commercial ships traveled safely through the strait during the operation.

"This wildly successful effort is because the UNITED STATES of AMERICA CONTROLS the Strait of Hormuz — NOT Iran. Their military is defeated, and their economy is lost. It's over for Iran," Trump stated in his post.

The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman that serves as a major route for global oil shipments.
