AT&T launches $3 daily iPad data service for all carriers
AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) launched Unlimited Day Pass, a $3 daily data service for eligible iPad users regardless of their wireless carrier, the company announced Monday.
The service provides 24-hour unlimited data access for Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad models with eSIM capabilities, requiring no contracts, subscriptions or credit checks. Customers receive their first day pass at no charge, with subsequent passes available for purchase directly through iPad settings using a credit or debit card.
The service works on iPads from all major carriers including Verizon and T-Mobile customers. AT&T claims to be the first major U.S. wireless provider offering on-demand connectivity to iPad users outside its subscriber base.
"Our goal with any product is to make it simple for people to connect wherever they are, across the devices they use most," said Josh Goodell, vice president of Consumer Product Management for AT&T. "Unlimited Day Pass delivers on-demand connectivity for Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad models on the nation's largest wireless network, whether someone is an AT&T customer or not, for a flat daily fee."
The company lists 26 eligible iPad models, spanning from the 7th generation iPad to the latest iPad Pro and iPad Air models released in 2024. Data activation begins shortly after purchase and lasts 24 hours from activation.
AT&T plans to expand the service to other 5G-enabled devices including Android tablets, smartwatches, laptops and drones. The company also indicated future plans for multi-day options such as weekend and week-long passes.
According to a 2024 customer survey commissioned by AT&T, many consumers own iPads without cellular plans. AT&T may temporarily reduce data speeds during network congestion periods.
