Sempra subsidiary Oncor to construct majority of $7 billion Texas grid projects

June 10, 2026 7:55 AM

Sempra (NYSE: SRE) announced that its subsidiary Oncor Electric Delivery Company will construct most of the transmission projects recently endorsed by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) for the southern Dallas-Fort Worth area and I-35 corridor.

ERCOT endorsed several transmission projects last week, which combined with projects approved in April, are expected to require over $7 billion in new investment. The projects are anticipated to enter service between 2026 and 2034 and will support approximately 16 gigawatts of new electric demand.

Oncor, in which Sempra owns an 80.25% stake, operates as Texas's largest transmission and distribution electric utility. The company expects to construct the majority of these ERCOT-endorsed projects.

The estimated capital expenditures through 2030 for these new investments fall within Oncor's previously identified $10 billion incremental capital opportunity beyond its base capital plan. Some investment is projected to extend beyond the current five-year planning period.

Oncor is currently executing a $47.5 billion base capital plan covering 2026 through 2030. The projects remain subject to additional regulatory approvals.

ERCOT manages electric power flow to more than 27 million Texas customers, representing approximately 90% of the state's electric load. The organization's board of directors has approved a system-wide approach called the Batch Zero process to sequence large-load interconnection requests.

The Public Utility Commission of Texas is expected to consider final approval of the Batch Zero process this month. ERCOT is expected to announce additional transmission upgrade requirements in the second quarter of 2027 to support projected electricity demand increases from large load customers.
