June 10, 2026 5:59 AM

Airbus Helicopters secured a contract with Romania's Ministry of Internal Affairs for 12 multirole helicopters, comprising seven H160 and five H145 aircraft, according to a company statement.

The acquisition forms part of the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) initiative, which aims to strengthen European civil protection, emergency response, and public safety frameworks.

The aircraft will be operated by the Ministry's General Inspectorate of Aviation under coordination of the Department for Emergency Situations. Four H160 helicopters will handle civil protection and disaster relief missions, while three will support public order, aerial surveillance, and tactical security operations.

The five H145 helicopters will be allocated to Romania's emergency rescue service (SMURD) and mountain rescue operations for rapid emergency medical interventions, medical evacuations, and search-and-rescue missions.

"We are deeply honoured by the trust that the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs has placed in Airbus to complement their aeronautical fleet through this landmark multi-platform order," said Matthieu Louvot, CEO of Airbus Helicopters.

Airbus Group trades on over-the-counter markets under ticker EADSY. The company has operated in Romania for over twenty years through three business units, including an Airbus Helicopters customer center that achieves approximately 75% of its revenue through export contracts.

More than 1,800 H145 family helicopters are currently in service globally, accumulating over 8.5 million flight hours. The H145 features two Safran Arriel 2E engines with full authority digital engine control and the Helionix digital avionics suite.

The H160 includes Blue Edge main rotor blades and canted Fenestron tail rotor technology, which the company states reduces perceived sound by up to 50% compared to conventional designs. The helicopter is equipped with Safran Arrano engines.
