Airbus uncertain on A320 production target amid RTX engine issues
Investing.com -- Airbus SE expressed uncertainty about meeting its production target for the A320 jet next year due to possible engine supply constraints from Pratt & Whitney, the company's chief executive officer said Tuesday.
The planemaker has maintained a goal of producing 75 A320 family jets monthly, but the timeline for achieving this rate has been delayed repeatedly as supply chain problems have limited access to parts and engines.
"I am frustrated with this because we had a good plan to go to rate 75 by the end of next year, and now we see that, depending on how much we'll finally manage to get from our friends at Pratt, we might fail on this objective and fall short of the 75," Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said at the Berlin Aviation Summit.
Airbus has stated that RTX Corp.'s Pratt & Whitney unit cannot fulfill its original delivery commitments for narrowbody A320 engines due to required maintenance on planes already in operation.
The company plans to deliver approximately 870 jets to customers this year, below its initial expectations due to the disagreement with Pratt & Whitney.
Pratt & Whitney CEO Christopher Calio said in April that the engine manufacturer will "ultimately get there to where we need to be on volumes going forward."
