Square Peg Communications partners with VIAVI Solutions for 5G testing
Square Peg Communications announced a strategic partnership with VIAVI Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) to develop test capabilities for 5G non-terrestrial networks (NTN). The collaboration combines Square Peg's satellite communications expertise with VIAVI's wireless testing experience.
The partnership addresses testing challenges in 5G NTN, which introduces requirements including Doppler frequency shifts, propagation delays, satellite handovers and hybrid terrestrial-satellite interoperability. The companies will integrate Square Peg's RLS-2100 emulator with VIAVI's TM500 Network Tester to create an end-to-end testing platform.
"As commercial interest in Direct-to-Device connectivity, LEO constellations and integrated terrestrial-space networks continue to accelerate, robust test environments are becoming essential to successful deployment," said Ian Langley, Senior Vice President at VIAVI's Wireless, Security and Applications Business Unit.
The joint solution will support gNodeB testing, 5G NTN validation, satellite channel emulation, handover scenarios, and hybrid service continuity validation. The platform aims to help network operators, chipset vendors, device manufacturers and infrastructure providers validate NTN systems.
Square Peg Communications, based in Ottawa, specializes in satellite systems engineering and manufactures satellite communications products. VIAVI Solutions provides test and measurement solutions for communications networks and other critical infrastructure.
The announcement was made in a press release statement from the companies.
