Rivian starts R2 deliveries and opens orders for reservation holders
Rivian Automotive Inc. (NASDAQ: RIVN) began public customer deliveries of its R2 mid-size electric SUV and opened orders for existing reservation holders on a rolling basis.
The R2 vehicles are being produced at the company's Normal, Illinois manufacturing facility. Rivian employees started receiving deliveries in April before the public launch.
The first available model is the R2 Performance with Launch Package, starting at $57,990. This version includes dual-motor all-wheel drive producing 656 horsepower, acceleration from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds, and an EPA-estimated range of up to 330 miles. It comes with Autonomy+ hands-free driving assistance across 3.5 million miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada.
Additional trim levels will follow with the R2 Premium arriving in late 2026 starting at $53,990, and R2 Standard configurations beginning in early 2027 with prices starting at $48,490. A lower-priced R2 Standard version will arrive in summer 2027 starting at $44,990.
Reservation holders will receive order invitations based on factors including when their reservation was made and delivery location. Current Rivian owners will receive accelerated delivery timing. All reservation holders are expected to receive delivery estimates by the end of June.
"This vehicle reflects the passion and excitement of the entire Rivian team who have worked tirelessly to bring it to life," said RJ Scaringe, founder and CEO of Rivian.
The R2 features a 115.6-inch wheelbase, 9.6 inches of ground clearance, and 90.1 cubic feet of total storage space. The vehicle includes haptic steering wheel controls, dual digital displays, and an AI-ready architecture with 5G connectivity.
Rivian is constructing a second manufacturing facility in Stanton Springs, Georgia, expected to begin vehicle assembly in late 2028 with capacity for up to 300,000 units annually.
