Rubrik (NYSE: RBRK) announced the acquisition of Strata.io and the introduction of two new identity resilience capabilities at its FORWARD conference in Las Vegas. The company did not disclose financial terms of the acquisition.

The acquisition enables Rubrik to offer Identity Continuity, which automatically maintains authentication when primary identity providers fail. Strata.io specializes in identity orchestration and unifying fragmented identity and access management infrastructures across multi-cloud environments.

Rubrik also introduced Identity Roll Forward, which the company describes as an industry-first capability that allows organizations to recover identity systems to a current state while preserving legitimate changes such as employee onboarding and offboarding. The feature aims to eliminate attacker persistence without requiring weeks of manual system rebuilding.

According to Rubrik Zero Labs data cited in the announcement, 90% of IT and security leaders consider identity-based threats their primary concern. The new capabilities address scenarios where organizations face compromised identity providers.

"When an IdP is compromised, organizations face an impossible choice: roll back to a past clean state and lose legitimate business progress or stay compromised and leave the attacker's backdoors intact," said Anneka Gupta, Chief Product Officer at Rubrik.

Strata.io was founded by CEO Eric Olden, who co-authored the SAML identity federation standard used for authorization and authentication by identity providers. The company's CTO Granville Schmidt chairs the JavaScript security working group.

Both Identity Roll Forward and Identity Continuity are currently in private preview, according to the company's announcement.
