Kratos Defense & Security Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ: KTOS) announced plans to expand production capacity for its Spartan turbojet engines to meet growing demand from missile and loitering munition programs.

The company plans to produce 3,000 engines next year, according to information from a press release. Kratos has initiated internally funded procurement of long-lead materials and supply chain investments to accelerate delivery timelines.

"As the Department of War focuses on rebuilding critical missile inventories and increasing affordable precision-strike capacity, the need for scalable, high-performance but low-cost propulsion systems has never been greater," said Steve Fendley, President of Kratos Unmanned Systems Division.

The Spartan engines are designed, manufactured and supported in the United States using a domestic supply chain. The engines are currently supporting multiple customers and platforms across the defense sector.

Kratos stated the expansion supports Department of War priorities to replenish missile inventories and expand production capacity for precision-strike weapons. The San Diego-based company develops technology and systems for defense, national security and commercial markets.
