Apple introduces AI frameworks and Xcode 27 with agentic coding tools

June 8, 2026 5:00 PM

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) announced new artificial intelligence frameworks and the release of Xcode 27, which incorporates agentic coding capabilities for app developers. The company introduced these tools as part of broader platform improvements aimed at accelerating app development.

The new intelligence frameworks build on Apple's Foundation Models framework, providing developers with a Swift API that supports on-device models with image input and server model integration. Apple developed its next-generation Foundation Models in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models. Developers enrolled in the App Store Small Business Program with fewer than 2 million first-time App Store downloads can access these models on Private Cloud Compute without cloud API costs.

Xcode 27 integrates coding agents from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI directly into the development workflow. The release includes interactive planning capabilities, multiturn question-and-answer features, and validation tools that allow agents to run tests and interact with simulators. The application is now Apple silicon-only and 30% smaller than previous versions.

Apple introduced Core AI, a framework designed for running models on-device using Apple silicon's unified memory and Neural Engine architecture. The company also announced updates to the App Intents framework, enabling deeper integration with Siri AI capabilities.

Additional tools include Game Porting Toolkit 4 for Mac game development, official Unity plug-ins for StoreKit and Background Assets, and Reality Composer Pro 3 for spatial experience development. Xcode Cloud performance increased by up to 2x and now supports Metal and visionOS builds.

Developer betas for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, visionOS 27, and Xcode 27 are available through developer.apple.com. Apple Intelligence features remain available only in supported regions.
