Brookdale Senior Living reports May occupancy increase to 82.5%
Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) reported May 2026 consolidated occupancy results showing weighted average occupancy of 82.5%, representing a 250 basis point increase year-over-year and a 20 basis point sequential improvement from April.
The Brentwood, Tennessee-based senior living operator said month-end occupancy reached 83.5% in May. Same community weighted average occupancy was 82.9%, up 130 basis points from the prior year period.
The company noted that May's sequential growth aligned with patterns from the previous two years. Brookdale indicated it typically experiences its strongest occupancy growth from May through September.
Brookdale operates 543 communities across 41 states with capacity to serve approximately 46,000 residents as of May 31, 2026. The company expects to average approximately 42,800 consolidated units for the second quarter of 2026.
