Salesforce to acquire metering platform M3TER for consumption billing
Salesforce Inc. (NYSE: CRM) announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire m3ter, a metering and rating platform for consumption-based monetization.
The acquisition will integrate high-volume mediation, metering and rating capabilities into Salesforce's Agentforce Revenue Management platform. This addition aims to enable enterprises to implement usage-based and outcome-based pricing models.
"Every company is looking for more flexibility in how they monetize their products, especially as AI shifts the landscape from traditional subscriptions to consumption-based models," said Meredith Schmidt, executive vice president and general manager of Agentforce Revenue Management at Salesforce.
M3ter's platform processes product usage data in near real-time and allows companies to configure consumption-based billing scenarios. The system integrates with customer relationship management, enterprise resource planning, and quote-to-cash systems.
"We founded m3ter to solve the hardest problems in usage-based pricing, drawing on over a decade of experience building cloud-based backend services," said Griffin Parry, founder and chief executive of m3ter.
The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027, subject to standard closing conditions. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed in the company's announcement.
