Smith+Nephew (NYSE: SNN) announced the completion of initial clinical cases using its CORI XT Handheld Robotics Platform for knee and shoulder joint replacement procedures.

The first shoulder arthroplasty cases were performed at Duke Health by Dr. Christopher Klifto, utilizing the CORI SHOULDER system with the AETOS Shoulder System. Dr. Bertrand Kaper subsequently completed the first CORI XT shoulder procedures in an ambulatory surgery center at North Valley Surgery Center in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dr. Ran Schwarzkopf performed the first knee replacement procedures with the CORI XT platform at NYU Langone Health.

The CORI XT Platform features a handheld design intended to provide robotic assistance while maintaining existing surgical workflows. The system integrates with Smith+Nephew's CORIOGRAPH Pre-Operative Planning and Modeling Services and is designed for use in both hospital and ambulatory surgery center environments.

The platform represents part of Smith+Nephew's handheld robotics approach, which the company describes as "Skill Amplified," aimed at supporting surgical precision while preserving surgeon control and clinical judgment.

The CORI XT system is designed as a single platform for multiple orthopedic procedures, including partial to revision knee, hip, and anatomic and reverse shoulder surgeries. Hip indication remains under development.

These clinical cases mark the initial deployment of Smith+Nephew's latest generation handheld robotics technology across multiple joint replacement procedures, according to a company press release.
