Jefferies says American Airlines holds 69% Dallas market share

June 8, 2026 9:11 AM

Investing.com -- American Airlines holds 69% of the domestic market share in Dallas during the second half of 2026, maintaining the same level since 2019, according to a Jefferies analysis. Southwest Airlines ranks second with 17% market share, also unchanged from 2019 levels.

Dallas is the only U.S. city to serve as headquarters for two public airlines, with both American Airlines and Southwest Airlines based there. The Dallas market operates through two airports: Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field.

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport accounted for 82% of available seat miles in the Dallas market in 2025, while Dallas Love Field represented 18%. American Airlines holds an 82% market share at Dallas-Fort Worth, which represents the carrier's largest domestic market at 17% of its domestic network.

Southwest Airlines holds a 98% domestic share at Dallas Love Field in 2025, making it the carrier's sixth largest market at 5% of its domestic network, behind Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Chicago Midway and Baltimore-Washington.

Frontier Airlines has gained market share in Dallas, rising from 0% in 2019 to 4% in the second half of 2026. The growth came at the expense of smaller carriers, as the top four ranked airlines maintained relatively steady shares since 2019.

Originating available seat miles from the Dallas market grew 15% in 2025 compared to 2019, outpacing overall U.S. domestic capacity growth of 10%. Second quarter 2026 growth was flat year-over-year, with American Airlines up 1.6% and Southwest Airlines down 0.8%.

Jefferies analysts met with American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines at a conference last week. All three carriers reported strong demand with no signs of weakening despite multiple fare increases to cover rising fuel costs.
