Expensify launches AI integration for natural language expense queries
Expensify Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFY) announced the launch of Expensify MCP, an integration that connects the expense management platform to AI assistants including ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor through the Model Context Protocol.
The integration allows users to query their expense data using natural language through compatible AI clients. Users can ask questions such as "What did I spend on travel last month?" or "Which expense reports need my approval?" and receive real-time responses from their Expensify accounts.
The system connects through OAuth 2.1 security protocols and eliminates the need for CSV exports, custom scripts, or manual integrations when accessing expense data through AI platforms.
"As software shifts from menus and forms toward conversational interfaces, businesses will expect every product to work seamlessly with AI agents," said David Barrett, founder and CEO of Expensify. "MCP is quickly becoming the standard for how AI systems interact with external services, and we want Expensify to be accessible wherever our customers are working."
The MCP can process various query types, including searches for specific expense categories, receipt verification, approval workflows, and spending summaries by team or time period. The system can also identify expenses missing receipts or track client-specific spending patterns.
The Expensify MCP is available to any user with a validated Expensify account. The company reports serving 15 million members worldwide through its expense management, travel, and corporate card services.
