Ormat introduces Ormega100, its largest binary geothermal unit

June 8, 2026 9:00 AM

Ormat Technologies Inc. (NYSE: ORA) announced the launch of the Ormega100, a binary power generation unit designed to deliver 100 MW of output in a single autonomous unit. The company describes the unit as the largest binary solution currently available in the geothermal industry.

The Reno, Nevada-based geothermal company said the Ormega100 is engineered for high-temperature Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) environments and represents part of its strategy to accelerate EGS deployments. The unit connects subsurface development with surface power generation capabilities.

Ormat operates approximately 1,835 MW connected to transmission infrastructure and holds approximately 400,000 acres of developable geothermal leases across six states. The company's current generating portfolio includes 1,340 MW of geothermal and solar generation spread across the United States, Kenya, Guatemala, Indonesia, Honduras, and Guadeloupe, plus a 495 MW energy storage portfolio located in the United States.

"Rapidly rising electricity demand and our decades of proven operations create an opportunity unlike any we have seen before," said Doron Blachar, Chief Executive Officer of Ormat, according to the company's statement.

The company said it is advancing two strategic pilot programs that combine its industrial capabilities with EGS technologies. Ormat positions itself as a vertically integrated designer, builder, owner, and operator of geothermal facilities.

Ormat has engineered, manufactured and constructed power plants totaling approximately 3,600 MW of gross capacity that it currently owns or has installed for utilities and developers worldwide. The company has expanded its operations to include energy storage services and solar photovoltaic systems.
