Solidion Technology receives 7 new US patents for battery anode materials
Solidion Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: STI) announced it received seven new US patents for composite anode materials used in lithium batteries, according to a company statement. The patents bring the company's total US patent portfolio to 130 patents focused on anode materials for lithium batteries.
The Dallas-based battery technology solutions provider said its silicon anode technology targets applications including AI data centers, unmanned aerial vehicles, humanoid robots, and electric vehicles. The company stated its technology addresses limitations in current silicon anode production methods that rely on silane gas feedstock.
Current silicon anode production using chemical vapor deposition faces challenges including silane gas scarcity in North America, explosive properties, high costs, and transportation difficulties, the company noted. Existing porous carbon particles can only accommodate up to 50% silane-derived silicon in their pores.
Solidion's patented approach uses porous graphene balls that can accommodate up to 90% silicon in the composite material. The company's process eliminates silane gas requirements and uses domestically sourced feedstock. The graphene component is produced by affiliated company Global Graphene Group from biomass materials.
The company operates pilot production facilities in Dayton, Ohio, and holds over 385 patents covering battery innovations including silicon anodes, biomass-based graphite, and lithium-sulfur technologies. Solidion focuses on manufacturing battery materials and components for energy storage systems, electric vehicles, and aerospace applications.
