Verizon cuts several hundreds, Business Insider reports
Investing.com - Verizon confirmed on Thursday it is cutting several hundred workers, marking the second round of layoffs in six months following a November reduction that eliminated 13,000 positions.
The telecommunications company declined to specify the exact number of job cuts but said the figure represents less than 1% of its total workforce. The reductions affect employees across the United States, with the largest portion occurring at the company's headquarters in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Smaller business units are particularly impacted by the cuts.
Despite the layoffs, Verizon maintains over 1,000 job openings on its careers site, and affected employees are eligible to apply for these positions.
During an earnings call last week, Chief Financial Officer Anthony Skiadas said Verizon is now "running leaner" after last year's layoffs and indicated cost reductions would extend beyond 2026. The workforce reduction was not included in the company's outlook.
CEO Dan Schulman said during the November layoffs that "every part of the company" was affected by the reduction, which aimed to enable increased investment in customer satisfaction.
