Alaska Airlines signs agreement for Boeing virtual training platform
Alaska Airlines has signed a formal license agreement for Boeing's Virtual Airplane training platform, Boeing (NYSE: BA) announced during the World Aviation Training Summit in Orlando, Florida.
The Virtual Airplane is a device-agnostic training solution that allows pilots to practice procedures through the Procedures Trainer app on computers and tablet devices. The platform includes a Flight Management System for data entry and exploration, enabling training outside traditional simulator environments.
Alaska Airlines served as a development partner during the creation of the Virtual Airplane platform, providing feedback that helped shape the training solution. The airline is now moving from beta testing to full adoption of the technology.
"Alaska Airlines' commitment to innovation and safety has been instrumental in the development of Virtual Airplane," said Chris Broom, Vice President of Commercial Training Solutions at Boeing. "We are proud to see this partnership evolve as they move from beta testing to full adoption."
Jeff Severns, Managing Director of Flight Operations Training for Alaska Airlines, said the collaboration has provided pilots with flexible training tools that complement traditional simulator sessions. The airline plans to integrate the technology into its ground school curriculum.
The Virtual Airplane currently supports Boeing 737 MAX training, with plans to expand to additional Boeing aircraft models. The modular training suite aims to help operators standardize training, reduce simulator familiarization time, and accelerate pilot readiness.
The information is based on a Boeing press release statement.
