Ethiopian Airlines converts six Boeing 787 options to firm orders
Ethiopian Airlines has converted options for six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft into firm orders, according to a joint announcement from Boeing (NYSE: BA) and the African carrier.
The conversion represents the exercise of commitments from Ethiopian Airlines' 2023 order agreement with Boeing. The airline plans to use the 787-9 jets to expand its intercontinental network from Addis Ababa and increase cargo capacity.
Ethiopian Airlines operates what the companies describe as Africa's largest 787 Dreamliner fleet, using its 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft on intercontinental routes from Addis Ababa to destinations across Europe, Asia and North America, as well as intra-African routes.
The airline currently serves over 145 global destinations with a fleet of more than 170 aircraft.
Boeing manufactures the 787 Dreamliner for commercial aviation customers worldwide.
